Abstract
The Consumer Protection Act, 2019, represents
a significant legislative advancement in the landscape of consumer rights in
India. This paper seeks to explore the dynamics of this critical piece of
legislation, examining its provisions and their implications for consumer
rights. The Act introduces several transformative features such as the
establishment of the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), the
provisions for product liability, and the emphasis on e-commerce regulations, which
collectively enhance consumers' ability to seek redressal for grievances. This
analysis delves into the challenges and opportunities posed by the Act,
evaluating its effectiveness in addressing the contemporary needs of consumers
in a rapidly evolving marketplace. The paper highlights the Act's impact on
consumer awareness and empowerment, while also considering the limitations and
areas for improvement in its implementation. Ultimately, this exploration aims
to provide an informed perspective on the broader implications of the Consumer
Protection Act, 2019, for safeguarding consumer rights and promoting fair trade
practices in India, thereby contributing to the ongoing discourse on consumer
protection and regulatory frameworks in the country.
