Abstract
The Geneva Conventions of 1949 in the IV
Convention regulates the protection of civilians in countries of conflict as a
guideline for protecting the civilian population during war. Humanitarian Law,
also known as the Law of War or the Law of Armed Disputes, contains the main
principles, namely the principle of military necessity, the principle of
humanity, and the principle of chivalry. These three principles always underlie
the rules contained in humanitarian law. The results obtained in this study are
that humanitarian law aims to provide protection and assistance to those who
suffer or who are victims of war, both those who actively participate in
hostilities (combatants) and those who do not participate in hostilities or the
civilian population.
