Abstract
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of law enforcement in
preventing deforestation in Indonesia, with a special focus on protected forest
areas. Deforestation is a serious environmental problem in Indonesia, which not
only threatens biodiversity, but also contributes to global climate change.
This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method to analyze the
application and impact of environmental laws in overcoming deforestation. The
data was collected through in-depth interviews with law enforcement officials,
government officials, environmental activists, and local communities involved
in protected forest conservation. In addition, the study also analyzes legal
documents, government policies, and reports of non-governmental organizations
(NGOs) related to environmental law enforcement. The results show that although
there have been various regulations and policies designed to protect protected
forests, implementation on the ground still faces various challenges. The
obstacles found include a lack of resources and capacity of law enforcement
officials, corruption, and public non-compliance with existing rules. In
addition, this study identifies the need for synergy between governments,
communities, and non-governmental organizations in law enforcement and forest
conservation efforts. This study concludes that to increase the effectiveness
of law enforcement in preventing deforestation, it is necessary to increase the
capacity and integrity of law enforcement officials, as well as the active
participation of local communities. The recommendations provided include
strengthening the legal framework, improving coordination between institutions,
and empowering communities in forest management. With these measures, it is
hoped that efforts to prevent deforestation in protected forest areas can run
more effectively and sustainably.
