Abstract
This study examines Nigeria's challenges in protecting
human rights and the environment, despite constitutional and international
recognition of the right to a healthy environment. Weak enforcement hampers
existing legal frameworks, exacerbating issues like pollution and
deforestation. Urgent reforms are needed, including strengthening legal
mechanisms, enhancing enforcement, and promoting public participation in
decision-making. Drawing on international best practices, actionable steps are
proposed to advance human rights and environmental sustainability. Integrating
these considerations is crucial for fostering equitable development and
ensuring a healthier future for Nigerians.
